Cub Scout Uniform Guide
What does my scout need to wear and when?
The Class A uniform is the official dress uniform. Every scout should have a Class A uniform to wear to all Pack and Den Meetings as well as most Pack events. For some of our more active Pack events such as hiking, scouts are allowed to wear a Class B uniform. The Class B uniform is a scout related t-shirt.
The Class A uniform consists of shirt (including patches), pants, belt, neckerchief slide and each year, based on rank, the hat and neckerchief are updated. For our kindergarten Lion scouts, the Class A uniform consists of the official lion t-shirt, neckerchief and hat. Details on uniforms for each rank can be found here.
Where do I put the patches?
A great place to start is Scoutshop's Beginner's Guide to Cub Scout Uniform Insignia.
Want to get it 100% right? Check out the detailed Guide to Awards and Insignia, and click through to Cub Scout Insignia in Section 2 for all the details. Please note that the 2024 program update has removed Bobcat as a standalone rank and Lion is now one of the standard rank emblems. Refer to rank emblem placement as depicted here.
What if I don't know how to sew?
Not a problem. Not only can a local Scout Shop handle the sewing for you (see locations below), but you can also connect with dozens of other parents in the pack or your scout's den to assist. In addition, you can use fabric glue in place of sewing on the patches (but you may need to be more careful with washing).
