About our Pack
What kinds of activities do Cub Scouts do?
Our school-year based scouting program focuses on developing life skills, confidence, leadership, adventure, safety and most of all -- having fun. A typical slate of activities includes:
- Monthly pack meetings with activities and special guests (e.g., robotics demonstration, reptile show, visit from local police/fire departments, outdoor sports and more)
- Monthly den meetings to focus on advancing through the ranks
- Campouts (minimum twice a year)
- Hikes (regularly throughout the year)
- Pinewood Derby
- Service projects (e.g., Scouting for Food, laying wreaths at Arlington National Cemetery)
- Ropes course
- Fishing
- Biking
- Annual pool party
And much, much more. Check out our calendar of events for pack-level activities and inquire with our pack membership chair, Carly Rhodes, to learn more.
Do I need to know how to camp?
No prior outdoors experience is required. You and your scout will learn everything you need to know from the program, with the assistance of dozens of other scouts and adults.
Who runs the pack?
The parents! Parents are expected to participate in scouting, with volunteer leaders serving in various roles throughout the pack, including as Cubmaster and leaders of our dens. Dens are organized by grade level, and school if applicable, from Kindergarten (Lions) through 5th grade (Webelos/Arrow of Light).
What values does Scouting promote?
Scouts focus on the 12 Scout Laws. A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent.
Is Scouting associated with religion?
Scouts is open to everyone; we don't identify exclusively with one faith. Scouts is open to people of all faiths and of none. As an inclusive and values based movement, we support our members to engage with spirituality in an exciting and meaningful way. Andrew Chapel UMC serves as our sponsoring organization, and our membership includes scouts from a wide variety of religious and cultural backgrounds.
